Ask me about my Utopia TTRPG setting “Overgrown”

I might actually make this sometime, sounds like fun.

Also, shout out to Reddit.com/r/VirtualDemocracy, a new political experiment happening on Reddit!

Now that I think about it, it would be cool to see this game idea implemented with the people in r/VirtualDemocracy, idk. ☕️

I love that take on the concept! I get so used to medieval fantasy themes that I forget to consider other themes that might fit an idea better.

I’ll definitely contact you once I’m further along in the process, if that looks like the way I’m going to go. I may also try to self-host, depending on a number of factors.

As it is, I still have to do a bunch of planning, code, marketing, etc. before it all goes live.

Possibly! What would that look like?

Amazing concept. Beautiful. No notes.

Depending on the game, I like to have a “crosshair” instead of a “pointer” cursor.

I’ll also scatter treasure and traps throughout the maze, along with custom structures that house puzzles, mobs, unique loot, & strategic importance.

There will be multiple levels, with stairs up and down scattered throughout the map. When the map resets, players get sent back to their team’s base.

Once I’ve got the code part figured out, I’ll start looking into setting up a public Minecraft server for people to play in it.

My idea is that it will be a PvP factions server where the map (except faction bases) resets on a regular basis (e.g. weekly).

I don’t lose momentum as much because I can finish a demo quickly enough, and then I get excited/inspired and can hardly wait to start the next one.

I’m tricking my brain into being able to make one big game without getting too burnt out.

Thanks!

And I completely agree. I’m developing a series of demos for the different game mechanics, since I’m not using a game engine. Once I have them all finished, I’ll combine all the code into a big game with its own storyline that will hopefully be really fun to play.

Thanks!

I’m still toying with the concept in my head, but I might set it up sometime.

Not sure how I would afford it tho, and I don’t want to put ads on it or use any illegal gambling to make up for server costs like some servers I can think of.

This is so real.

I initially started working on my first (and so far only) game because I wanted to play it, and every once in a while I take a break from working on it to play it and enjoy the game I made for myself.

I agree. I get crazily inspired by stuff on itch. Amazing games out there. Whenever I’m in a creative rut for my own stuff, seeing what other people made gets me going again.

Obviously I don’t steal anyone’s work, but I definitely pull and modify unique mechanics and gameplay aspects I come across.

Also lots of dynamic upgrades that interact with each other. Like the whole thing is just upgrades. I’m really excited for it.

If anyone has ideas I’m open to suggestions.

Might use one of them for my own stuff if anyone has an idea that my single remaining brain cell likes.
