A bit of a jumble at the moment, really. Writer? Landscape. Poetry. Wrote some books about Glaciers, now writing one about Lakes. My circus, my monkeys. Haiku. Two cats and a collie. Retired UK Geography lecturer & NTF. Around 53N, 2.7W.
For today’s #DailyNature I’ve gone micro… this is moss growing in the groove at the bottom of the driver’s-side window of my meticulously maintained car. The moral? Perhaps that nature always wins in the end.

A somewhat eclectic driving-home playlist coming up from my favourites this afternoon. #Music. Carrie Newcomer, Avril Lavigne, Pete Atkin and Bjork.

We start early & before dawn our ears tell us as much about our surroundings as our eyes do. This Tawny Owl did try to help, though, putting himself in silhouette against the pre-dawn sky. With sound on you’ll hear him calling, too. #DailyNature
Sorry 4 quality: he was far away & I only had phone.

Because we start early, the #FirstBirdOfMyDay is usually heard but not seen. Today, however, Mr Tawny Owl put himself in clear silhouette against the pre-dawn sky where we could see him as well as (if you turn your sound on) hear him!

#FirstBirdOfMyDay First it was Mr Tawny in the pre-dawn darkness: "Who Wh... Wh... Whoo?" Then a few minutes later Mrs Tawny doing a flypast along the canal "Mee Mee Mee!" She startled a Wood Pigeon from his tree, who flapped and clapped his way into the darkness, woken prematurely and disgruntled.

For my first post to December’s #DailyNature challenge, a picture of my village to remind me that daily nature doesn’t necessarily need an expedition into the wilderness. Whether you live in town or, like me, in the countryside, nature is to be found in small corners as well as big landscapes.

Two of yesterday’s skies. Which would be a good title for a book. #sunrise #sky #GoodMorning #Cheshire

Early-morning walk along the canal in the mist. Good morning from Marbury. Llangollen Canal, #Cheshire.

Let no one say I am not frugal… I’m still getting some life out of this now-tiny piece of chalk that I use for writing down when I have cleaned, or next need to clean the fish. #economy #frugal

I posted a new short blog entry at petergknight.wordpress.com/2025/11/27/m... It's about a watch I was given more then 50 years ago, and another that I bought this week.

Another section from Titus Groan (Mervyn Peake) that I marked up as I read it. #Booksky #amreading #highlights

Good morning from Marbury. My #sunrise #sky today. #Cheshire

I pencil-marked the margin to flag up a passage I appreciated, and then noticed I was lining over a very faint mark I must have made in the same spot when I first read this book in 1983. Consistent opinion over 40 years… not sure if that’s a good thing or not. #BookSky #amreading “Titus Groan”.

Good morning from Marbury on the Llangollen Canal. The sun’s not quite up yet.

One of the things I love about 5-day test match #cricket is the variety between matches. Yesterday at the end of day-2 the #Ashes match was finished. Today late in day-2 the India/SA match is still in the first innings at 450-8. Few sports can match it for variety.

At the moment I’m (re-)reading “Titus Groan” by Mervyn Peake. #amreading #BookSky #reading . I first read it in 1983 and have revisited it over the years. I’m also a big fan of Peake’s poetry.

When I wrote #haiku
I thought in fives and sevens.
But now I am free.

Sorting out more old boxes I found this 5 inch floppy disk from the Palaeolithic era when I was a PhD student in Aberdeen. Floppy disks from an era before the floppy disks that old people remember. These ones are actually floppy.

The first bird of my day was a Blackbird, sitting on the hedge, judging me as I walked past. Birds see all our sins.

Stephen Donaldson… that takes me back to my student days, 1980-81!

On my walk I saw
Two crows, the moon, Jupiter,
And the rising sun.

#FirstBirdOfMyDay #haiku #sunrise Good morning from Marbury.

The #FirstBirdOfMyDay was a Robin clacking away in the hedge as the sun started to come up as we had our early walk along the canal.
