I’m old enough that video game translation / localization is one of my go-to examples of this, a medium we’ve watched improve in real time as a result of human work and care taken to translate both the language AND the overall vibe.

In the eyes of the establishment, there’s literally nothing Mamdani can do to prove he’s not an antisemite, and literally nothing the openly fascist trump regime can do to prove they are, up to and including intentionally dressing like literal, historical Nazis

I’m starting to wonder if the only way this meme becomes irrelevant is if they simply stop objecting to being called nazis

It’s still so infuriating how genuinely funny trump is, in spite of everything. Like, whatever else it might be, his treatment of the white house is just objectively hilarious, even going back to this all-timer of a photo op from his 1st term. It’s all exactly what a parody of himself would do.

I hope this meme will someday be less evergreen

"Whaddayamean, fascism? There's no such thing as fascism! I'm a businessman! I'm in sanitation!"

I wondered if "double-tailed monster" was some sort of nazi dog whistle he got from one of the regime's Goebbels wannabes, but the first thing that came up in a search was this cool guy, from Naruto apparently

So an employee of *10 years* was summarily fired for posting ... this?

Fuck Sucker Punch. Fuck Ghost of Yotei, as much as I was genuinely looking forward to it. Fuck Sony. Fuck all these rich cowards. Fascism is an economic problem as much as it's a political problem.

Nothing incriminating about this, just a perfectly normal innocent note exchanged between friends

And for anyone who needs context: in the Marvel comics, any time THIS guy shows up, you know some shit is about to go down

Were those little green guys in Fraggle Rock supposed to have seized the tiny little means of production at some point, or were the Fraggles their bosses?

No new pictures, where are you at mentally?

As I was blocking an obnoxious account on here I caught a brief glimpse of their timeline, and holy christ

lol, Fox News doing the equivalent of Star Trek TNG running a clip show as a season finale

This is one of many passages that stood out to me; it's not a one-to-one with current events, but an (again, non-fictional) account of the lawless cruelty of "law" enforcement empowered by authoritarian politics which feels particularly poignant.

Finally got around to reading Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, and it feels timely and important as a non-fiction account of a complex, flawed, but sincere and serious leftist opposition to fascism, ultimately undermined and defeated by "allies" more focused on fighting egalitarianism than fascism.

Exactly

RIP Harris Yulin. He was the Platonic ideal of a brilliant character actor who both fits perfectly and stands out impressively in everything they're in, but I'll always think of him for his role in what might arguably be Star Trek's most important and ever-timely episode, Deep Space Nine's "Duet".
