It may look to the untrained eye, I'm sitting on my arse all day.

This afternoon from 2pm, we're going to party like it's, um, 1980 in the heart of London, with all ticket proceeds going to Beauty Banks. What greater incentive to postpone the Christmas shopping?

Look at all the pretty colours and the beautiful music straining inside them straining to be heard! Let's see how much of it I can release into this evening's Soho Radio show. 6-8pm live.

It's never too late to become a Top 10 Independent Breaker.

Much as I loved Jonathan Dean's Radiohead feature in yesterday's Sunday Times, the thing I keep coming back to is this photo of them as teenagers. The band posters are Iron Maiden, Marillion (from their 1983 tour programme) and fellow prog-rockers I.Q. I wonder whose bedroom this is?

Come join me in a once in a teatime trip to probably imaginable places with these items on Soho Radio. Live from 6pm.

Do you like listening to a thing while doing another thing? If so, why don’t you do the latter whilst doing the former with me on Soho Radio from 6pm? I have John Myrtle in session (that’s him below) + magical melodies from Julian Cope, Oreglo, It’s Immaterial, Jamie Woon, Gene Vincent & much more.

There are hardly any radio stations left that look like the radio stations you imagine in your brain, with actual turntables and moody lighting, but Soho Radio is one of them. And I'll be using them EXTENSIVELY between 6pm and 8pm. Join me, why don't you?!

Not if you live in Crouch End, where the local baker has a Sally Rooney cake in the window.

Figuring out a narrative thread for a feature can be a bit mind-boggling. With some, it’s best to write the first two paragraphs and feel your way through. With others, you need to know exactly where you’re going. Somehow this turned into a 5000 word Pet Shop Boys feature.

16 Lovers Lane start to the day, but it’s suddenly gone a bit Fotheringay.

33 years ago, Ken Sweeney sang his heartbreak into a tape machine and, in doing so, created a modest masterpiece of jingle-jangle mourning. I've loved this album ever since it came out & it's dream to be able to give it an expanded re-release on Needle Mythology. Understand/Understood is out today.

Still, I think I've found a suitable replacement.

An exceptionally strong squad competing for airtime on tonight’s Soho Radio show - alongside a bunch of less photogenic audio files of excellent new releases. Join me from 6pm.

I'm waiting for the van.

Long week. I have the evening to myself and what an indescribably satisfying feeling when the record you instinctively feel you need to hear as you pour yourself a glass of wine is one that your label put out.

Now looking forward to Bally Sagoo’s DJ set at Bobby Friction’s Azaadi in Shangri-La at #Glastonbury. Bollywood Flashback was a huge album for me. Have no idea what to expect from him in 2025, but that’s why I’m so excited to be here.
June 27, 2025 at 9:03 PM
I think I might have found the sweetest spot. The Little Big Sound System cranking out heavenly rocksteady sounds from a single turntable. It’s at Wyvern’s Watch Bar next to Shangri-La. #Glastonbury

At #Glastonbury? Join me at The Crow's Next TONIGHT for a set of Wine O’Clock Bangers: over 2hrs of K-Tel Klassics & Now That's Why I Call Mum & Dad superhits! Expect a sizzling sesh of solid gold AOR, drivetime delights, d.i.s.c.o. zingers, vintage MTV gems & air-grabbing power ballads. 10.45pm-1am

Met Lee Mack for the new @radiotimes.bsky.social I was initially given 45 minutes, & when it became apparent that this wouldn't be long enough, we kept going & he even invited me to hop in the car to his next engagement so I could use that time as well. Lovely guy. Real unassuming warmth about him.

If you want to, you can join me on Soho Radio in around five minutes' time. Then you won't have to make any music-related decisions for the next two hours. And joining me from 7pm is one of my favourite singer-songwriters on this or any other planet, Michael J Sheehy. Eeek!

A huuuuge thanks to @tim-burgess.bsky.social for inviting Needle Mythology up to the wonderful #MerchMarket in Manchester on Sunday, along with fellow plattermongers @precrecs.bsky.social and @wiaiwya.bsky.social. Lots of exceptional humans present including Timself & @bmxbanditsduglas.bsky.social.
