In the end, it make their job *harder* instead of easier, because they learned nothing in the initial process, and had to re-do everything after I ripped it to shreds in minutes.

I don't know if they will learn from this, and I worry they won't.

Instead of research, they had fed the briefs submitted to the court to the machine and just blindly trusted what the AI told it was good/bad law in those briefs as guidance. They didn't understand the topical area, but rather than spend time getting grounded in it, they just plowed ahead with this.

They spent nearly an hour on the prompt and half a day editing. I could have written the entire memorandum in maybe an hour or two after another maybe hour of research (it's a topic I know well).

But they didn't *understand* any of it. They couldn't answer follow up questions, or restate it.

One of them asked me to look over something they wrote a couple weeks ago. It had fundamentally flawed thinking. The citations were correct, and it hadn't hallucinated the quotes they used, but it was clear they had not read the case or understood how the rule was applied when I talked to them.

I'm a lawyer and some of my coworkers have started to try to embrace the "let's AI write our thing and then we'll clean it up aftewards and make sure the citations are good." It's significantly more work to fix it than it is to just write it, and on top of it, they don't understand the law used.

This was a truly upsetting loss and I don't know how to deal with it.

You're a Bears fan, you have lots of experience with this feeling, what do I do?

DM me a photo of it so I can see how bad it is and I can probably make a more concrete suggestion. If it's mostly just surface stuff, some scrubbing, ozone, and oxyclean might be sufficient, but if it's bad tar buildup, it might need to be stripped and resealed.

No you gotta pay more for that
December 18, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Out of curiosity, did you read the Times report, or the underlying interviews from Vanity Fair?

I can't DM you, but Rebecca Dodson.

Credit is already tightening because lots of people were overleveraged from the pandemic because the Fed and Biden admin gave out a lot of cash to keep things sliding. It's what led to inflation, but it's also why our economy rebounded faster and we didn't see enormous layoffs.

Bankruptcy rates are going to go nuts, and that's going to collapse credit. No credit = illiquid economy, and that's quite literally how we got The Depression.

What the goddamn fuck WHY
December 13, 2025 at 3:08 AM
Like didn't the en banc circuit already say "no go ahead and do this"?
December 13, 2025 at 3:02 AM
Oh FFS didn't we do this already?!
