FRANK WHAT THE HELL IS A ROBO COP?! JOHN Robocop is a beacon of hope, Frank. A sentinel of justice created to free the citizens of Detroit from the tyranny of the unjust. He's half man, half machine. He's a robot cop. FRANK They have robot cops now? How in the hell did I miss that? KAREN This is ridiculous. I mean, who ever heard of putting up a statue of a fictional character? JOHN What about the Rocky statue in Philadelphia? LISA Or the Fonz in Milwaukee? TAMMY Or, uh, Mary Tyler Moore in Minneapolis? FRANK That Mary Tyler Moore was some piece of ass. KAREN Frank! Please! Look, John, I understand that you're a Robocop fan and I realize what he means to you, but there's no way that the city council is going to approve building a statue of him with the money we allotted for bringing in tourists! JOHN Well, maybe there's someone who CAN convince you. 4. (Peter Weller walks in stiffly, covered in tin foil from head to toe and holding a ridiculously large handgun.) LISA Robocop! TAMMY Is that... Peter Weller? JOHN No, it's Robocop! Robocop, what are the Prime Directives? PETER WELLER (as Robocop) Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, uphold the law. FRANK Jesus Christ, he's got a gun! (Frank rushes Peter Weller - at least, as quickly as an 88-year-old man can rush someone - and is immediately subdued by Peter weller.) PETER WELLER (as Robocop) Your move, creep. FRANK God damn robot cop! PETER WELLER (as Robocop) Dead or alive, you're coming with me. KAREN Stop it! Please, stop it! There is obviously no such thing as a real Robocop. Especially not one built out of tin foil. JOHN There, there, Robocop. Shhhhhhh. Here, have some bananas, big guy• (John pulls out a jar of baby food and spoon feeds Peter Weller. Peter Weller takes a bite, removes the tin foil from 5 his face and speaks in his normal voice.) PETER WELLER Look, lady. My name's Peter Weller. I played officer Alex Murphy - Robocop - in Paul Verhoeven's 1987 cult masterpiece. Now Robocop was a satire, but it also explored REAL issues that are still affecting the citizens of Detroit - and the citizens of this entire nation - to this day. Detroit needs this statue. I need this statue. My career pretty much peaked with Robocop. It would mean a great deal to me, and to my friend John here, and to people all across America to have a Robocop statue built here in Detroit. LISA Hell yeah! TAMMY He IS kind of hunky. FRANK And he's got a mean right hook! JOHN Well, everyone seems to be in agreement. What do you say, Karen? KAREN You have been very persuasive. I'll have to bring it to my superiors, but I think maybe, just maybe, a Robocop statue IS what Detroit needs most right now. FRANK I'd buy THAT for a dollar! (Peter Weller dons his tin-foil mask, twirls his gun, cowboy-style, and holsters it inside his tin foil leg. He walks, robot-like, to the door, turns and looks at the group.)
