He has been calling and looking for her 😭 but she's gonna have to stay in a hospital cage for a bit till she recovers more and I can rearrange her cage so that there are more platform perches in it

So no, I don't think euthanasia was appropriate this time. Thanks.

problem, and came up with a plan to confirm and treat it.

He said she would continue to improve and she is.

It is true that this may shorten Mango's lifespan, but now that we know what's wrong and have a plan, she can comfortably and happily have more time.

certified avian specialist 3 hours away we went.

AT NO TIME did this vet, who specializes in avian medicine, and with years of experience, say that it would be kinder to euthanize. He said she is NOT in pain, NOT in heart failure, and NOT in respiratory distress. He identified the likely

Pepper, the namesake of this page, when it was time.

If Mango were elderly, this almost certainly would have happened on Thursday. But Mango is about middle aged for a sun conure. This means she's young enough to consider some alternatives, like finding out what's truly wrong.

So off to a

about that.

On Thursday when she was in very bad shape, that was considered. It was a possibility. It was talked about a lot with her regular vet and with my partner. I would like to make it clear, yes I am aware of that option and have chosen it for birds before when appropriate. I chose it for

another cardiac event.

I do not know if Mango will ever be 100% again, but she is way, way better than she was a few days ago.

BUT HERE'S THE BIG THING I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS.

There have been a few, I guess, sorta suggestions that maybe Mango should have been put to sleep. So let's talk

murmur. She suffered some kind of "cardiac event" due to this, which is what caused her to be so poorly. She is now recovering from that event, which is why she is improving every day.

While the meds will aid that recovery, they are more so preventive. They will help to decrease the chances of

understanding and communicating everything, mostly because I've been in a nonstop panic for days and haven't slept much.

In talking with the vet again, here is my understanding, some of which will have to be confirmed via EKG later.

Mango likely has heart disease and definitely has a heart

She hasn't worked up to that yet, but she started saying "hello" and "no" again!

to see about getting her an EKG.

the first time in days.

Unfortunately, because the meds she needs have to be compounded and mailed to us, she will not get her first dose until Tuesday/Wednesday. After that, I'm hoping she improves a lot more.

Our regular vet will be calling Tufts University tomorrow

I have also added some things to the bird's Amazon Wishlist if you would like to send Mango some things. I just added platform perches. www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

Thank you again. It really means so much. I'm in a tough spot financially and this was unexpected. I hope I can repay your kindness.
