This week, we will discuss the National Day of Mourning, World AIDS Day, and the return of CDC COVID data post-shutdown.

This is the People’s CDC bi-weekly update for December 2nd, 2025! This Weather Report from the People’s CDC sheds light on the ongoing COVID pandemic and other public health crises in the United States.

Government funding restored but disease surveillance delayed, COVID wastewater levels rise slightly, and take action to protect vaccines among kids and oppose Casey Means as Surgeon General.

Public health in jeopardy during govt shutdown, COVID wastewater levels decrease, communities stand up to ICE, and take action with our new flier.

Cuts to spending on domestic programs including healthcare have led to significantly increased premiums in both the private and public marketplaces. Insurance premiums only make up part of the story, with much of the increase in premiums being driven by expiring tax credits for those accessing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. Health premiums for some Americans will rise as much as 70% for 2026 without an extension of the tax credit structure. For the 24 million Americans who do not get their insurance through an employer or Medicare/Medicaid, out-of-pocket premiums are projected to double on average without a tax credit extension, meaning many will see an even greater increase." Communities are not sitting by and are organizing efforts to support fellow humans including volunteer patrols, documenting sightings, and rapid response training. In a drive to reduce drug costs, the FDA moves to speed approval of biosimilars by removing the requirement for human trials." Published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the study found that the increased risk was maintained for at least a year after the infection. Importantly, the study found that other viral illnesses, including the flu, also increased the risk of cardiovascular disease. Even in the absence of an official Long COVID diagnosis, reinfection was associated with a higher risk for related conditions such as POTS, myocarditis, chest pain, fatigue, dizziness, and more. Public health is under physical and political attacks, COVID wastewater levels are high– save COVID vaccines and remove RFK Jr., and keep healthcare safe from COVID infections.
