And we work with suppliers to ensure we buy net zero compute, but for weather modellers the equation does look rather different: physical modelling is so energy consumptive that AI/ML has the potential to be lower energy to train and far lower to run. Providing always it can be made trustworthy

Two good points might take two tweets. We won’t make anything operational unless it’s been validated to the same standard as our traditional methods, and we are already finding that we need broader validation techniques: the traditional ones don’t cover all the aspects 1/2
