other than that, a tote bag is a fantastic babbys first sewing project. it's rectangles sewn in straight lines. this style is probably easiest to DIY since its just two totes, no zippers or anything
oh, i velcro the insert on. and thick velcro does add stifness across the top of the insert

some of the slumping is due to the construction of the base bag, and you fight that less on some shapes than others. it's part of why i gave up on vertical backpacks like these and stick to rectangles now. but also it's gonna depend on the build of the bag, all of mine are front access

but 3 of my 4 current bags (rainbow circle got taken apart) i have no extra stiffening beyond the properties of the fabric and interfacing used (these 3 + the KK rectangle) and they carry fine

and with this one my insert was a high density black EVA foam circle with a rim around it so it didn't fall back into the bag cavity (bag is just clear, no merch pocket)
EVA looks nicer than plastic grid or cardboard and is flexible, pinnable, etc. but this one is Dense not regular thin kraft foam

i honestly disagreed with much of the presentation. i'm a tote bag lover who finds backpack displays difficult to use and dangerous to large merch. i don't use cardboard or needlepoint sheets. i sometimes add a flat piece of plastic just inside the bag AFTER display is done, as here
