Well, the Thanksgiving prep is all done. Hopefully tomorrow I won’t be too busy to take some pictures, but just in case, here are some pies: pumpkin, shoo-fly, and cranberry lime. Best wishes to everyone cooking today, I hope it comes out wonderful 🍜🍽️

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to salt your turkey and leave it uncovered in the fridge so the skin dries out and the meat gets flavorful. Disregard if you wet brine your turkey, or if you’re doing a smaller bird that only needs 24 hours. 🍽️🍜

Fucked around and made Dolly Parton’s cranberry mold - not for Thanksgiving, just to try it. It tastes more raspberry than cranberry, but it’s good, even with the celery. 🍽️🍜

We live in a condo, and rarely get trick-or-treaters, so today we set up a table outside, actually handed out some candy, and got to say hi to some of our neighbors. We also had some anti-ice/know your rights pamphlets to hand out.

Made Peanut Butter and Jelly cookies (King Arthur recipe, made with their raspberry jammy bits). I don’t know why modern cookie recipes make such big cookies (I do, it’s Levain and probably Milk Bar), but I prefer a more snacky, manageable size, so I cut the portions in half. They are very yummy. 🍽️🍜

I got Filipinx by Angela Dimayuga and Ligaya Mishan out from the library, and tried a few recipes: Garlic Butter Fried Rice, caseless Longganisa (Filipino-style chorizo), and a table pickle that was green papaya based in the book, but we didn’t find any, so ours is mango and cabbage based. 🍽️🍜

Five-spice butternut squash with cheesy custard from NYT cooking. It’s delicious as written, but next time I’d dice the squash and shallots so they’re more evenly distributed in the custard. 🍽️🍜

Made a pie with some of the apples (Rhode Island Greenings) we picked yesterday! Ignore the crust — I forgot to make enough for a deep dish pie, so it was a bit of a stretch to get it to cover the pan. Otherwise it’s basically perfect

Today we went heirloom apple picking at Nashoba Valley Winery. Brought back almost a bushel of apples, and some cider, wine, and brandy as well.

Cauliflower, potato, and pea curry (a household staple)(it doesn’t have a ridiculous amount of turmeric in it, I used golden cauliflower from the farmers market), and peach cobbler. 🍽️🍜
