The apps in various bowls: pickled grapes, pickled green beans, smoked trout dip with crackers, bourbon spiced pecans, walnuts, and cashews, and Aperol candied almonds and hazelnuts The turkey, just out of the oven, still in the roasting pan. Well, the Thanksgiving prep is all done. Hopefully tomorrow I won’t be too busy to take some pictures, but just in case, here are some pies: pumpkin, shoo-fly, and cranberry lime. Best wishes to everyone cooking today, I hope it comes out wonderful 🍜🍽️

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to salt your turkey and leave it uncovered in the fridge so the skin dries out and the meat gets flavorful. Disregard if you wet brine your turkey, or if you’re doing a smaller bird that only needs 24 hours. 🍽️🍜

Fucked around and made Dolly Parton’s cranberry mold - not for Thanksgiving, just to try it. It tastes more raspberry than cranberry, but it’s good, even with the celery. 🍽️🍜

I finished knitting this a while ago, but only just got around to blocking it. Love the yarn (Miss Babs’ Conopas), and I really enjoyed working on the pattern (Leaflette by Justyna Lorkowska), too! 🧶

Today we went to the Renaissance Faire at Bow Market in Somerville. It was fun, but pretty crowded. We did get some cool art and a couple books, plus fries

We live in a condo, and rarely get trick-or-treaters, so today we set up a table outside, actually handed out some candy, and got to say hi to some of our neighbors. We also had some anti-ice/know your rights pamphlets to hand out.

Made Peanut Butter and Jelly cookies (King Arthur recipe, made with their raspberry jammy bits). I don’t know why modern cookie recipes make such big cookies (I do, it’s Levain and probably Milk Bar), but I prefer a more snacky, manageable size, so I cut the portions in half. They are very yummy. 🍽️🍜

I got Filipinx by Angela Dimayuga and Ligaya Mishan out from the library, and tried a few recipes: Garlic Butter Fried Rice, caseless Longganisa (Filipino-style chorizo), and a table pickle that was green papaya based in the book, but we didn’t find any, so ours is mango and cabbage based. 🍽️🍜

Spent the weekend in and around Woodstock, NY for a cousin’s wedding. It was a great time hanging out with the family in a very autumnal atmosphere.

It’s the first weekend in October and I’m home alone for the morning. Gonna light my ‘There’s Nothing Sweet About Candyman’ candle and pull a few Horror Oracle cards to get in a festive mood. Let me know if you want me to pull one for you, too.

The box is decorated with illustrations of Michael Myers, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Bride (of Frankenstein), the Thing, the twins from the Shining, and the last guy I’m not sure of. It’s either a zombie, or maybe Father Karras from the Exorcist

New pottery finishes! The vases were a check-in project to see how we were doing after our summer break: the beige-pink one is mine, the blue-green one is @jeremiahgenest.bsky.social ’s. The sake bottle is mine from before the summer break, but it was the unfortunate victim of a kiln malfunction

Made a pie with some of the apples (Rhode Island Greenings) we picked yesterday! Ignore the crust — I forgot to make enough for a deep dish pie, so it was a bit of a stretch to get it to cover the pan. Otherwise it’s basically perfect

Today we went heirloom apple picking at Nashoba Valley Winery. Brought back almost a bushel of apples, and some cider, wine, and brandy as well.
