Oh no! Thanks for the warning 😬 Do you use something like chlorhexidine for wound cleaning?

Kiitos has SLO (unofficially). In retrospect, it probably started about a year ago, but it wasn’t a full nail loss at the beginning and it wasn’t until this year that I caught on. How long has Nina had it?

I am glad they are taking such good care of her (and she’s letting them)!

How was your vet bandaging her feet so her injured toe was not pressed against her other toes? Do they put a pad around the quick and then put cotton between toes? We got sent home with no padding between toes and I think that caused some unhappiness, so trying to better understand the protocol!

That is very informative! Thank you for sharing. How did you/vet (if you know) bandage his feet so the quick was not pressing against his other toes? Was it some combination of non-adherent pad and cotton padding between toes?

Oh so many sock feet ❤️❤️❤️

*attached, not stacked

Also, when the nail was still partially stacked, it would work loose on its own? We haven’t encountered much of that partial situation yet so it’s good to know if you were able to let it detach itself vs trying to remove it. Thanks!

Oh interesting. Do you know why there’s a hole? I just checked one of the discarded nails and it also has a little hole but did not appear to go all the way through
November 23, 2025 at 12:37 AM
Ah so it sounds like it became a more gentle nail loss over time?
November 23, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Ah that’s fair. No staring!!
November 22, 2025 at 6:13 PM
Thank you! Also, do you put on booties when going outside (in general)? And how do you keep dry in wet weather?
November 22, 2025 at 3:59 PM
Also would love to hear more about the paw pockets you came up with if you’re willing to share more about that!
November 22, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Oh absolutely no need to do all that! What was your strategy for letting it heal without too much licking (bandages?)? @ollywhippet.bsky.social mentioned socks and paw pockets after initial wrapping. If the nail came off without the quick, did the vets remove the quick too or just let it heal as is?

That is all very helpful. Thank you for sharing! I’ve been wondering about switching to socks and how best to keep them on. Do the vets remove the quick if it does not come off on its own, or just leave it? We’ve had conflicting recommendations on that
November 22, 2025 at 2:11 PM
I’m sorry Nina is experiencing this too. Do they just keep bandaging her foot until it heals?
November 22, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Yes, that’s what we’re looking at. Sorry to hear Hunter was showing signs too. It can be a bit alarming when the nail breaks off!
November 21, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Thank you! Will message you with some questions if that’s ok 🙂
November 21, 2025 at 9:39 PM
Oh! Hope you are feeling better soon!
