There’s a similar re-appraisal of PRL-era housing estates in response to polish „pato-development”.

Ya. Thats a very tough one to do. Working with the MTO comes with lots of constraints.

While working under the Ontario Hydro wires is a challenge, the Meadoway has been proven how it can become an incredible community space. The very same hydro corridor also has cricket and soccer fields just at Jane:

The idea still needs a champion, but one hopes that people understand how redundant it becomes once subway extension is complete. The bus terminals too, but understand that is being looked at already.

Upgrading the parks & public realm will be critical. The proposal includes:
1. Protections for existing tree cover;
2. New trail along historic Wilkett Creek;
3. Greenways that tie Yonge and neighbourhood amenities together; and (dare to dream)
4. A big new green space on the TTC’s Finch parking lot

Our work on the North York Centre Secondary Plan proposes more tall building blocks around stations redesignating Willowdale for mid-rise and 6-stories for everything in between. It will be at committee next week.

Atlanta streetcar is the poster child for this.

Then there’s the facedectomies and Black Creek Pioneer Village stuff we do in Toronto that absolutely privileges the bricks over the place.

Or hybrid histories like Berlin’s Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church that kept the ruin and built a modern church beside it, or the Nueus Museum that inserted new among layers of history - both as a memory to the horror’s of WWII.
