That would be taxing earned income even more when one issue we have is that we don't tax unearned income enough.

You'd also be favouring older people with that method. Apparently 8 people lived in my place when it was a rental, now it's just me. The council tax remains nearly the same.

I've heard "add more bands" mentioned as a smart thing to do in the past, but it's not been mentioned in this years convos around this. It's an all round mess.

There was even a non gov version kicking around for years before that. Been a real journey.

Was very interesting hearing @dorianlynskey.bsky.social talk about MixMag, the writers loved doing the long articles/interviews with the acts. When it went online the numbers for those weren't great. People got the mag for reviews and listings. Similar with newspapers I imagine.

Interesting debate. Have to say it was jarring, during the era I was going all the time, to see something, agree with theatre twitter pals it was a clunker, see people on Whatsonstage forum dislike it and then see a 4 ⭐ guardian review. But I accept Billington was coming from a different angle.

Someone once looked at a year of Michael Billington's Guardian theatre reviews. He'd given 11 two ⭐ reviews and everything else was 3 or higher. There's an awful lot of mediocre theatre out there, so how he'd sustained that positivity over about 50 years I don't know!

I'm sorry but those on here doing "what Polanski actually said on NATO was…" are doing exactly what Corbynites were doing and it's getting pretty tedious. Just accept that on this he is deeply unserious and he will need to do something about it if he wants to get anywhere

His entire life? Didn't know this. You should go and edit his Wikipedia page.

Same photo for waking up and looking at the cricket score a couple of hours ago.

It's a woman, they are allowed to be Doctors now.

I think the average person has an idea of what their house is worth, maybe they don't then look at even the bare details of the policy. Hard to say really because I can't imagine only reading the headline in that situation!

Oh it can absolutely be done. I just think proper council tax reform is the way to go.

Sold isn't that relevant, it's the value now.

Applies to so many things doesn't it.

I'm thinking of shop owners convinced Oxford Street or a High Street will die if people aren't allowed to drive to the door of the shop, when these schemes are implemented they do well. LTNs the same. Anything in driving realm really.

OK, but how's it spread? Piled high in city seats I'd guess. Those Lab/Reform marginals, LDs not involved? Greens in the Red Wall seats? Seems doubtful as it stands.
November 19, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Agree, but this should be the start of a thread. Game out the scenario where Reform are kept out of power in 29 under FPTP and Labour aren't involved. Because I'm struggling to do that.

I had a little moment when I saw the video still had a minute left to run. And another when you got to the top and I couldn't understand why it hadn't ended yet.

Oh god, that was so far over the shark by the end you couldn't even see the jet skis.
