The other thing this tactic does is it forces businesses and entire sectors to be reliant on him. They align with him or “bend the knee” so to speak and he lifts the sanctions and looks like a hero. It’s economic sabotage as leverage—manufactured chaos with a price tag and a PR spin.

So yes, de-escalation where possible—but paired with a broader strategy that recognizes when we’re already under attack. It’s not either/or. We need a collective plan that’s smart, moral, and unapologetically bold.

I hope I’m wrong. But historically, sadism like Hitler’s wasn’t stopped by restraint. His atrocities began long before most people even knew what was happening. And as unsavory as it is, it ultimately took war to stop him.

We don’t need more violence—we need more imagination. Something smarter, more inclusive, and better coordinated has to be brought to this fight. Perhaps that was not the best analogy, but there are literal Nazis with ARs walking around. I’m not sure they can be reasoned with.
