A lot of this is weakness disguised as strength. Russia is a lot closer to a demographic and financial collapse than Ukraine is to losing more territory. And when that Russian collapse occurs, look for several Russian territories to split off as Russia becomes essentially a Chinese vassal state.

You have to look at what Trump is doing in terms of tariffs, not in economic terms, but as a mobster would. He is using the tariffs to grift. He does not care who it hurts or if it makes economic sense. He is a career criminal - a convicted felon - and he will keep grifting until he is stopped.

Capable? Read Caro's book, Means of Ascent, which documents LBJ's 1948 campaign for Senate in which he beat former gov Coke Stevensen by fixing the '48 election. And if he was so capable, why did he not run again in '68 at the height of the Vietnam War? Ruthless does not equal capable.

James Schlesinger was Nixon's 2nd DOD SECDEF. In that Watergate era, Nixon had contemplated a military intervention. When Schlesinger found out, he told those around him to work only thru him on those matters - not POTUS, effectively killing any coup. Nixon never found out until he left office.

Growing up in Pgh in the 50's, the air was so bad that I could not see the house across the street @ noon. New snow looked like an Oreo cookie. Cars rusted from the inside bc sulfur dioxide, when mixed with water, formed sulfuric acid. And at night, the rivers glowed green and orange from pollution.
