That should go for all of us. Overuse just makes us sound like we're in some sort of arrested adolescence, trying to sound cool.

Do we have confirmation?

They mean something to Republican politicians. Because they mean something about the midterms.

Also worth saying, there are die hard MAGAs, but those aren't the only votes Trump got. He also got those who could have gone either way. Others stayed home instead of voting for Harris. All of those account for Trump's worsening numbers. If they go to low 30s, we might see GOP pols abandoning him.

Two polls released today have Trump at 35% job approval, his lowest yet.
35%-62% ARG
35%-56% High Point University

Economist/YouGov track had him at 38%-57%, their lowest reading this year. He just keeps dropping.

Wag the dog time!

And his poll numbers are going down. People don't change their mind all at once, there is a steady drip, drip, drip as people stop celebrating him, become skeptical, maybe decide they just won't bother to vote. Those who voted for Trump aren't going to become liberal Dems next week.

Go look at Trump's polls over the past few months.
November 28, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Yeah, okay, but this isn't going to convince anyone. They'll say it was the deep state's fault, -- which requires many more firings this time, or Trump was not being as tough last term as he will be.

Louisiana, give him a long, long vacation. We're begging you.

Because we need to see this. The rest of the country does too, and we can simultaneously watch his poll numbers fall. Not fast enough, but they are falling.

Plenty have pointed out that Sukkot (an important Jewish holiday mentioned in the Bible) has lots of similarities with Thanksgiving. It's an autumn harvest festival, expressing gratitude for protection (when the Israelites were in the desert) and care. Lots of eating and socializing --no football.

That I can imagine and it would be fun. What I can't imagine is voting for someone who voted for candidates who opposed abortion and a fair tax code for decades. Not ready to be a single issue voter.

Like you I have no patience for Vance on any topic. Also it’s intellectually obtuse to say his religious tradition is “about child sacrifice.” Like saying Islam is about war. That’s not a character limit problem.

Don’t know if it’s a white perspective but it’s one that seems oblivious to the way traditions reason about themselves. And like Americans who think they know what Jihad means- based on a little information, and some narrow stream’s peculiar take.

Calling yourself a “scholar of religion” should mean understanding all of that, right?
November 27, 2025 at 7:00 PM
It was self-sacrifice. You don’t have to buy it but learning how various philosophies/theologies work is maybe what we owe one another intellectually. Like not assuming we know what “jihad” is or thinking folk religion is all of a tradition.

Maybe take a religion class at a secular school. Consider possibilities like- demonstrating an unjust death isn’t a celebration of it, rather it’s a judgment, an unmasking of what power does. And the doctrine of the Trinity was the way xian theology handled the child abuse issue.
