I think I love this movie more because it didn't even try to improve on the original direct-to-video classic series. I gotta believe that everyone involved was having a blast during the making of this film.

"More 80s than the 80s" is the only benchmark that should matter.

I saw this cover & after some thinking (about the fight between these two- which doesn’t happen in the book- more than the cover art itself)

I can see an epic brawl between Ben & Barda… and then when they’re done, maybe exchange some coolie recipes or something.

Reading Hour of the Dragon, by Robert E Howard (originally serialized in Weird Tales from 1935-1936, published as the novel Conan the Conqueror in 1950). First off, Howard could WRITE! Calling his work pulp seems a little reductive

Second, the man was a prophet.
“Valerius ruled like one touched with madness. Even many of the barons who had welcomed his return cried out at last against him. His tax-gatherers crushed rich & poor alike; the wealth of a looted kingdom poured into Tarantia, which became less like the capital of a realm than the garrison of conquerors in a conquered land. Its merchants waxed rich, but it was a precarious prosperity; for none knew when he might be accused of treason on a trumped-up charge, & his property confiscated, himself cast into prison or brought to the bloody block.”
