Sounds like it would bring benefits to thousands and thousands of people every day

But … then again … it’s no stadium emergency
At Transit Committee, we asked staff to summarize items in the transit budget that will improve @octranspo.com bus on-time performance. Here's the summary, in a memo from staff.

Councillor Tim Tierney is wrong about ‘Chronic No-Voters’ in his Ottawa Citizen Op/Ed on Saturday.
His opinion would be easier to take seriously if the comments weren’t coming from someone with a 15-year track record of being a reliable yes-man for every budget. 1/21

A trifecta a few moments ago:

Elgin/Cooper

Driver making an illegal u-turn nearly hits cyclist while another driver is making an illegal left turn onto Cooper

Found in one of the new hospital’s Transportation Impact Assessment documents

So … if #OttCity decides to put in a transit priority lane the outcome is considered to be “worse”?

How so?

Obv, the authors are equating “vehicles” with “people”

In fact, the overall throughput (people) would improve

So … #OttCity staff are using AI?

Outlook, Word, Excel … all MS products that have it built in … the same stuff that everyone else uses

Not the flex they think it is

This is about bike computers and their potential to distract riders

Now, multiply this by 1,000 and substitute with “driving” and “cell phones”

So … let me see if I’ve got this right …

If local urban residents are opposed to something in their neighbourhood rural councillors will help railroad it through

But if rural residents are opposed to something in *their* neighbourhoods then everyone else better back off

Gotcha

Shurly to goodness this won’t be happening with Lansdowne 2.0

Maybe if the councillors in the affected wards would’ve voted in favour of Lansdowne 2.0?

Awww … who’m I kidding … he already had the votes of councillors who don’t give a shit about public transit
The 2026 draft Ottawa budget announces further delays to the Carling bus lane project, estimating the completion time for a bus lane project at 2035. This project was started in 2016 with designs released in 2017, which would make this be a 19 year long project just to install interim bus lanes.

Used to live about a mile or so directly south of RWY 18/36 in Winnipeg

We could hear every 4-holer from the moment they started spooling up at the threshold of 18 until they passed and turned on course

It was always about 6-7 minutes where any conversation (even indoors) was nearly impossible

Sorry, but I’m still struggling with how private citizens like @sjamieit.bsky.social are the one who are creating these types of data visualizations that councillors seem to find so interesting

Does #OttCity not have a data analytics group capable of producing this type of work?
A super interesting visualization of data from before & after installation of speed cameras. 💡
Injury graph redo. The earliest collision data is from 2013 and the earliest camera installation is 2020, so I trimmed the data at -6 years relative age.

Finally, a solution to the Trail Rd. problem

How much is it gonna cost?

That’s a secret

But it’s from Taggart so we can be sure it’s a good deal

But you know what is the best unrestricted fund for a municipality? Taxes and fees, the existing social contract with our residents. A donation button is sort of a bougie look for a municipality, and people will see through it.
