I hear you. I understand that none of the people who were laid off with me have been able to find full-time work and only some of them have been able to find steady freelance work.

I have a few freelance gigs that are helping to pay the bills, but it is discouraging.

I do hope, OTOH, that the people who are posting ads for ghost jobs will end up on the employment line themselves and face the same challenge of finding a job that I and many other people have. Their behavior is really sick.

And what do you know, the latest company to do this to me just made an announcement that is sure to scare off potential investors. I would hope that the company goes bankrupt, but that would be unfair to the innocent employees who may lose their jobs.

Have I applied for any ghost jobs? It appears that many of my applications have been for jobs that do not exist. One tip-off is that I have applied for a job, been told that another candidate has been chosen, and then saw the exact same job reposted on LinkedIn by that employer the next day.

The second explanation for why a company might post a ghost job is that the company is in dire financial straits and wants to reassure investors: "See! We have tons of job openings! We can't be going under!"

According to some sources, ghost jobs constitute up to 25% of advertised job openings. There are two main explanations as to why companies might post ghost jobs. The first is essentially an out-of-control HR department that is gathering resumes for the future to meet its KPIs.

I think it is good MNF played that old clip of Howard Cosell announcing Lennon’s death—it reminds us that this is just a game. #nfl #mnf

I don’t think I was able to sleep that night.

The new edition of the Beatles Anthology is well-worth watching, but I wouldn’t buy the DVDs because I already have the DVDs for the previous version. While all the changes makes the new version better, there just isn’t enough value to warrant shelling out more cash.

The last episode is about how and why they created the first edition of the Anthology. While that may seem lame, in truth it contains some of the best bits, as there is a lot more footage of the men working together, and some of the most intimate interviews in the whole series.

So what is new? The footage has been remastered so that it renders better on high definition TVs. All of the episodes have subtle changes in contents and editing. Episode 8 is completely different, giving a lot more detail on their last two albums and the breakup.

But the job market was terrible back then, at least in my neck of the woods. At least now most people have some cash flow.

Finally! One of the teams has a pulse.

This is exactly why I came to NYC.
