What a neat challenge.
The spiral makes it really tough. I got this far before deciding I should probably start over, focusing on the spiral groove first (I used a gross boolean here) since from there I can see the topology being quite clean

This is why I learned to 3D model as an illustrator. Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it would be to draw this "correctly"?
Not that my intension with this is for an illustration but, it's so much easier to tackle making something like this in 3D
