Is welfare spending ''out of control''?
Total welfare spending in Britain in 2025-26 is estimated to be 10.8 per cent of GDP.
That's just 0.8 per cent of GDP higher than in 2007-08, and total welfare spending has actually fallen fallen by 1.2 per cent of GDP since 2012-13⤵️

There have been 263 UK prisoners released in error over the last year, but apparently it's only newsworthy when they happen to be a non-UK national.
Offenders are not more dangerous by virtue of being 'foreign'.

I agree Ralph, thinking Will’s here for the season. Happy 4 no promotion if there’s on field progress. Changing managers doesn’t end well for us: likely exclusion of new squad members plus I cannot remember a new manager bounce. Only change for me this season is if it’s to stop relegation #SaintsFC

Pleased @trusselluk.bsky.social is joining our friends across so many housing and poverty orgs to call on UK government to unfreeze local housing allowance. When it was last frozen we saw how it drove up homelessness, hunger and hardship. UK gov must not repeat such a negative spiral.
We’re proud to have joined with over 40 organisations including campaigners for tenants, homelessness and debt advice charities, landlord organisations and others in calling on the UK government to unfreeze local housing allowance at the upcoming budget.
