Stories of adventure, activism, and reflection to inspire and restore connection to the natural world.
It is time for another round of “If you liked this… read that!"

Fans of THE OVERSTORY, this one’s for you. If Richard Powers drew you into that forest scale way of thinking, FOUR FIFTHS A GRIZZLY keeps you there, but through sharp, thoughtful essays. tinyurl.com/z4tsxfhz

Did you know the first aloha shirts were stitched in the 1930s in Honolulu from leftover Japanese kimono fabric? These bright, handmade shirts were originally sold to locals in small tailor shops, and eventually sparked the idea of "Aloha Friday" and dressing down at work. (1/2)

SOME STORIES is a collection of moments from another time. Early climbing days. Long surf trips. Bad roads, borrowed gear, questionable decisions, and the kind of freedom that’s harder to come by now.

Wildfires are burning across Chile and Argentina right now, driven by extreme heat, drought, and fierce winds that are pulling the last moisture out of forests and grasslands.

Did you know that, globally, we throw away about 40% of the food we produce? A lot of that ends up in regular landfills, where it breaks down without oxygen and produces exorbitant amounts of methane.

New reporting out of Montana shows that a shrinking number of people now control a growing share of the state’s private land. When that much land sits in so few hands, entire ecosystems hinge on individual decisions about fences, development, access, and habitat.

Fly fishing has picked up a lot of steam over the years, but the fish themselves haven’t changed much. They still eat, spook, and survive the way they always have. Which is why PHEASANT TAIL SIMPLICITY feels, in our humble opinion, like a breath of cold river air.

Do you judge a salmon by its color?

See, while wild salmon get their deep red tones from a natural diet, farmed salmon do not. So, aquaculture farmers add synthetic carotenoids to their feed to replicate that tasty pink color.

We are so proud of the incredible books we published this year.

Every story, essay, and photograph can be traced back to a single idea: that words and images can move people to act on behalf of our home planet.

New research is putting more detail to a worrying picture in Greenland. Scientists found that when warmer ocean currents reach the base of the Northeast Greenland Ice Stream, they can destabilize the ice from below, accelerating its retreat.

A common misconception about UPLIFTED is that it is a book built around one single, headline-worthy climb. It's not.

Sonnie Trotter gives you the full texture of a climbing life. The friendships, the doubts, the grit, the joy, the long arc of getting better and growing up.

We often recommend STILL SIDEWAYS this time of year. Devon Raney's exhilarating memoir tells the story of a passionate surfer, skateboarder, and snowboarder who, after losing most of his vision in an accident at 33, refused to let his disability dictate his life.

When trees disappear, the air gets hotter.

A new interactive map from the University of Leeds shows how deforestation is driving temperature increases of up to 5°C, affecting human health, crop productivity, and daily life. tinyurl.com/45braa2z

Vultures are essential. They find dead animals and strip them to the bone, removing a massive disease source. And while their favorite snacks would make other animals sick, vultures' powerful stomach acid can neutralize harmful bacteria and viruses.
