Never underestimate the power of cheap allure.
the top half of a shiny white metal fountain pen, with, like, a tweed? pattern in the cap and barrel, a shiny brass band saying JINHAO 1200, and a golden clip shaped like a dragon's neck and head with tiny shiny bright red eyes! Vulgar! Flashy! Mixes metals! The tweed pattern looks as though it would be mildly abrasive to the fingers,but it's covered in a smooth acrylic. It is heavy, 47.8 g when full. The plastic inner cap piece kept coming out at first, but I manged to snap it in properly (I think) with a chopstick and now it clicks shut and opens as it should.

Someone, possibly @comfortableshoes.bsky.social , told me it was possible to print pictures on #ToyCameras on _used_ receipt paper and darn if it isn't true! We were amused. Maybe pictures of the goods bought at some point.
A grainy monochrome picture of a happy white woman standing and probably thinking about sucking in her gut. What's interesting is that it's printed on a receipt from the bead shop she owns. The thermal print camera thoughtfully/through the miracle of SCIENCE printed over the receipt.

olofahere Do not punish the behaviour you want to see I mean, it seems pretty obvious when you put it like that, right? But how many families, when an introvert sibling or child makes an effort to socialize, snarkily say, "So, you've decided to join us"? Or when someone does something they've had trouble doing, say, "Why can't you do that all the time?" (Happened to me, too often.) Or any sentence containing the word "finally". If someone makes a step, a small step, in a direction you want to encourage, encourage it. Don't complain about how it's not enough. Don't bring up previous stuff. Encourage it. Because I swear to f. cking god there is nothing more soul-killing, more motivation-crushing, than struggling to succeed and finding out that success and failure are both punished.

I was visiting friends in the upper Hudson River Valley. Went to Boehm Farm for the doughnuts; I only cared about the small cliff outside. Some of the chert, but very little, was good enough to have fractured conchoidally. I murmured 'toolstone' to my polite friends. When I had time to search-engine

Apparently the chert (silica skeletons) would precipitate out onto the limestone (calcium carbonate skeletons) when the water chemistry changed. The scale of time just stonkered me. "I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into Fscist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town. Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming. Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance."

A covered bridge, very possibly (Google Lens) in Sleepy Hollow, NY. A small sign reads 'STATE ROAD.' The photo was taken about 30' from the entrance, lit from behind photographer. The entry to the bridge seems to squat like an open mouth. The far end, much smaller because vanishing point, shows the road; you _could_ make it through. Some light comes through the slanted palings making up the bridge's wall. Beyond and above the bridge, framed by dark, leafy trees, the sky is filled with intense dull red clouds, like fire.
