Curious person learning to be chill with being bad at things. Made some fun stuff like a multicart for the Suzuki Q-chord and a flashcart for Casio Loopy. 🇨🇦 Lives on an island on the west coast of Canada
Did I buy 1000xRESIST again? Hekki yes I did.

Free Piano, @heywhitney.bsky.social's new graphic novel, is out today! We visited some of our local booksellers and Whitney signed some copies on this beautiful day!

5. Some fairy tales in the story are familiar to western audience, but in one instance, we meet Kintaro, a folkloric hero raised in the wild with superhuman strength and an ono, a kind of long handled axe. In localizing it I thought Tarzan had more than a few parallels with his story (minus the axe)

...playing audio samples literally burned into it! In PLS, it's the chip that makes all the barks, whimpers, and other doggy noises, as well as some blammo!s and ding-ding!s for good measure.
The Loopy has audio passthrough on the cart edge and so the cart can just play whatever sounds it wants!

IDK if this is helpful or not but I made a little docky thing for IDE->FFC->CF so I could have better access to the CF card. A ribbon cable slips right through the edge of the chassis.

Finally, I used an OSCR with my makeshift Loopy cart adapter and my save trainer to personalize the cart's save data for each recipient. 💖

I printed out my scanlation of the user manual, cut to size, folded and bound with a 90° stapler. I carefully removed the label and printed one on sticker paper, cut to the signature Loopy rounded shape with my Cricut, using a painstaking workaround for their low-quality Print-then-cut workflow 😒.

I initially tried some old-stock obsolete SOP44 flash, but I was ultimately unable to get it programmed, so instead of creating a programming adapter for it, I figured the effort was better spent creating a footprint adapter to TSOP48 and using new M29F160 flash.

To put a bow on my Puppy Love Story localization (the 🎀 kind, not a bow-wow), I made a very, very small run of physical carts by hand. I bought a bunch of loose copies one at a time, designed a small flex PCB to adapt the mask ROM to a 5V flash module which I programmed with the English romhack.

Fiddled with the Forbidden Knobs today on my Commodore 1701 monitor from a barn. Seems so arbitrary that the H position knob is nice and accessible on the front panel, but the V position requires disassembly... 🤷
