I think it comes and goes in phases. Some people try it and find its not for them. Some people get bored with their current hair style.

More along the lines of Dwarf Fortess or Rimworld. I think I'd care about my Sims because the scale is still small.

I mean a big issue is that presidents have been increasingly relying on executive orders to legislate when it should be the congress and senate passing laws. I think the power of the executive branch should be reigned in a bit more... but that's just me.
