Maybe we should just nationalize Walmart’s supply chain.

Those additional costs are going to Walmart and the underpaid delivery people. And they add up. Why is that model better than just subsidizing local shops that perform additional services?

This means that 30% of all purchases are ostensibly subjected to delivery fees above the $15 monthly Walmart+ subscription. Which makes that 3% closer to 5-6%

Again, no real understanding of how people consume and how that is tied to logistic chains.

It’s weird calling oneself an unabashed liberal (or whatever) as the OP does without knowing that 1) markets fail, like any other system, req. a state to intervene; 2) even Hayek recognized the need for the state to participate (maybe not command) in a competitive economy.

@tressiemcphd.bsky.social is absolutely correct that reducing local physical stores to just distribution centers is incorrect. They perform a host of other services for their local communities, which just makes the market failure even more evident.

(There’s a lot of obvious reasons that have to do with the products themselves). In other words, market failure. Which means, there needs to be state intervention to remedy the problems with the supply and distribution economics.

Supply and distribution chains are complicated and favor the kind of economies of scale that mega stores imply. In an industry with low margins (like most food retail), this creates a disincentive for local sellers to get fresh produce.

I should have phrased things differently!

How about a small dog that could travel with you? Also, investing in professional training makes those 6 months less difficult.
