Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary
@paradiseparkhayle.bsky.social
Award winning wildlife sanctuary & indoor play in Cornwall. Exotic birds, beautiful gardens, otters, red pandas, red squirrels & Humboldt's penguins.
Perhaps the stangest of parrots, the Pesquet's looks like a fearsome bird of prey but is a frugivore (primarily eats fruit).
Also known as the Dracula parrot or as the Vulturine parrot, and classed as vulnerable in the wild.

This is Duchess a Toco Toucan, the biggest toucan species and also the most well known.
Did you know... the bill accounts for almost half of her length, and toucans have a long feather-like tongue that helps flick food down their throats.

This project is a magnificent example of collaboration. Demonstrating the hard work of dedicated teams across the globe. 🦜 40 Mitchell's Lorikeets bred here at Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary have formed the core of a project to restore them. paradisepark.org.uk/mitchells-lo...

Frankie Update 🦩
Mickaël Belliot, who took the fantastic photo of Frankie which confirmed her location on the coast of France, has gone one better by capturing a video. She is still at the Plage de Keremma but it took him three days to relocate her in the huge estuary area.

> Flamingos are capable of flying that distance, but we still feel amazed to see she has travelled so far also relieved to see her looking so fit. She has found a wonderful, protected estuary system & should be able to feed. We will update as we know more.

UPDATE There have been sightings of a flamingo on the coast of Brittany in France.
There is population of Greater Flamingos in Southern France that look very similar to Frankie, but we believe we can see the feathers on right wing have been clipped. Photo from www.faune-bretagne.org/index.php?m_...

So cute 🙂
We took in this Azure Tit a few years ago when it needed a home and love its cheeky personality. It lives in a mixed species aviary in the Pheasantries range.

This video by Ben Oakes is Frankie flying at Hayle Estuary on Sun at 12:30pm.
Helps show how she looks when flying & she appears much pinker in flight than we expected. Please keep a look out for her, especially anyone in the Newlyn & Longrock areas & Hayle >

Some people have asked what sounds do flamingos make. Turn up the volume on this video of Frankie and the flock filmed a while ago and you will hear their very nasal honking sound.

Many visitors enjoy watching Ground Hornbill Angel and her mate Pierre patrolling their territory. On their walks they often pause, face each other and clash their beaks together in a quite alarming courtship behaviour.
