Librarian, archivist and historian. Oregonian.
Like the mother ignoring that her partner is abusing her child. She is caught up in the world of the abuser and lets the unacceptable pass and pretends it isn’t happening or that bad. And even when a mirror is held up, will claim they couldn’t do anything or blames the child.

Lots of freemason and fraternal orders aka secret societies offered insurance to members. I wonder if that is the case here. Freemasons were often associated with crafts like stone mason or woodworking, so buildings played a role in those groups. And they liked to party, so ballrooms were a must.

I treat it like The Onion, albeit that rag is way better, and get a few laughs out of Classen’s ongoing rage about whatever. Never disappoints in how bad the takes are. Granted the writing makes it difficult to make it through Allen’s precious thoughts.

Wow! Velva G. Darling, the modern girl philosopher, going deep with that question.

My college was a haven for weirdos. The philosophy prof asking when we should start class. An early medieval art teacher gushing over fragments for weeks. A Frenchy finding codes in surrealist poetry. The history prof rocking a very 90s haircut to this day. And the linguist kicked out of Radiohead.

Not related to the environmental impact, but how gen AI is just not that great of a tool: autisticadvocacy.org/2025/07/asan...
We did the math on AI’s energy footprint. Here’s the story you haven’t heard.
The emissions from individual AI text, image, and video queries seem small—until you add up what the industry isn’t tracking and consider where it’s heading next.

Spumoni or vanilla?

For sure. It builds on the old trope of “they are coming for our jobs” and deep roots of racism. The propaganda provides a nudge, a confirmation of beliefs and builds on fears of the other.

The propaganda that they have been feed worked. They really believe the U.S. is being invaded by thousands of criminals released from jails in other countries. Gangs are pouring through open borders. Despite that many immigrants are their neighbors, peacefully contributing to their communities.

Also some taxpayers believe their tax dollars pay for it all. Collectively yes, not individually. They come into my work—a library—and think that the $38 from their property taxes pays for endless printing, databases (those aren’t cheap), keeping the lights on and our labor. The disconnect is wild.

Brings back not so fond memories of the Bush administration declaring that they were an empire and thus will define and redefine reality as they please. 🙃

Just one of those mistakes that Elon mention would happen. No biggie. 🤷‍♂️

Reminds me of when I was lamenting about the lack of green spaces in Chicago, my friend that grew up there promptly told me that I just need to get a second home in Michigan. Blank stares back at her as I thought about how I was scrambling to pay rent that month.

Consider calling 988 or reaching out to friends or family. Or at least taking a break from the internet and checking in with some cats.
