If that were the case, Cinderella & Jungle Book would also have flopped. Disney’s more artistically (and commercially) successful remakes (incl. Lilo & Stitch) don’t stray as far from the spirit of the original as Snow White. Plus Stitch has always been a merch juggernaut, even among recent films.

That was the same thing that brought me to Light in the Piazza, Guettel’s score from Floyd Collins. I’m so excited to finally see that next week.

Barks was great, but if this was your first exposure to the musical, I don’t think you come away understanding the generation that grew up with “On My Own” as their lovesick anthem.
