I'm currently genotyping common hamsters for captive breeding support--one of the breeding centers sent the hamster's names along with the samples and they include Tortellini, Apollo, Cherry, and Hänsel. This project might be too cute even for me

Walking along a city street in the East End of London and found a Eurasian Woodcock, as I guess one does. No injuries, just stunned, so I found a fenced-in yard for them to recover. Moral of the story: if you’re going to hit a window, make sure there’s an ornithologist nearby #ornithology

Fantastic keynote by @sushred.bsky.social on decolonizing collections research and building community. Action items for scientists: extend collaborators, explore novel research directions, build resources, expand networks of collections contributors

Edible mushroom foraging is a huge activity here but I only hunt with my camera bc I don’t trust my ID skills to not kill us. I asked some local friends if they’d be willing to show me the ropes but they politely brushed me off—no one wants the competition!

Lots of rain here recently, which means it’s finally autumn mushroom-hunting season here in the Spessart Forest of Central Germany 🍄🍁
