Soph has an ear infection which makes sound super painful. I have a cough this trip was shorter. Im on the way to a conference when today I was holding the cup for Soph to eat soup. A crazy life.

25/11/2025 A cough that won't go.

I am interested in how microbes respond to environmental change, and how responses differ between genotypes, multiple stressors, and community diversity. All of these questions can be answered using @edfeil.bsky.social's unique Klebsiella isolates so you can follow your interests (within reason).

Please share with anyone interested. It is not a glitch in the matrix unfortunately, but is genuinely the same project I have advertised >6 times now. This reflects the difficulty of getting a competitively funded PhD in the UK right now. It is partly a numbers game regardless of how good you are.

If this sounds awful and bleak, its because Soph's suffering because of her severe ME is beyond awful and bleak. #pwME #severeME #MECFS

02/11/2025 Suffering that she cannot describe, and I cannot imagine

How about the new podcast Hard Drugs by @scientificdiscovery.dev and friends. New episode on whether AI will solve medicine is over 4 hours long.

What do you think it is? To me we have more PhD students and postdocs, funding for grants is harder, lectureship positions in the UK are rarer, and fellowships are seen like a golden ticket to job security. Would be interesting to see how quality of candidates and winners has changed.

Severe ME traps the sufferer and the carer. Soph is trapped in her body. I couldn't understand a word she attempted this trip, devastating us both. Im trapped knowingly micro-dosing despair each visit. Love keeps us going.

I really want a new CRAN release to reflect these changes but it currently fails its R-CMD-Check on GitHub actions and I cannot work out how to fix it. To take advantage of all the new models, install it from GitHub. 😀

Soph's phone is her whole life. Her only window to the outside world. And last week it stopped charging. Even though we solved it, the stress of potentially losing stuff made her worse.

Eeeeee congratulations Rachel. Much deserved.

It is very similar to previous projects but the UKRI DTP system in the UK is so competitive that I have not been lucky enough to get a student, but I know the idea is still good! With Anne Leonard, Angus Buckling, and @edfeil.bsky.social.
