counterpoint: 3rd party indie devs are the ones making the best games right now
It's a bit sad that legendary IP's have to be saved by 3rd party indie devs

you know resetera is a bubble when the thread about a few problematic people (out of 200+) having half-second "meow" sound effect voice cameos in mewgenics is getting more traction than the main thread for the game

edmund, you beautiful son of a bitch. you've done it again

AYN Thor is the best emulation handheld I've ever owned and realistically it's the best one you can buy right now.

Steam Deck is still my favorite overall handheld for its breadth of support/compatibility, but the Thor's dual-screen design allows for natural and comfortable DS/3DS emulation.

how does fallout 4 look worse on switch 2 than it did ten years ago on PS4

i can't defend you anymore, todd

I really enjoyed Indiana Jones, but I'm thrilled MachineGames is getting back to Wolf. TNO and TNC are both stellar.

Gen AI war is already lost. Time to stop this was 2-3 years ago when everything was in its infancy.

i liked death stranding 2 but it wasn't the best game in any of the categories it was nominated for. it's not a "snub" to lose out to a stronger nominee.

the one thing it could have won was best performance for troy baker - if he had been nominated for it.

don't forget to buy yakuza 0 before it gets delisted for the worse director's cut version

i think arc raiders smoothed out too much of the friction that is supposed to come with the extraction genre. almost all of the tension in the gameplay is gone, and that ultimately makes it boring for me. i think tarkov is too extreme for new players but arc raiders is too far in the other direction

i will legitimately switch to linux if/when riot makes their anti-cheat compatible

windows is possibly in the worst state it's ever been in and i think it's going to get a lot worse

it's going to be at least $800. the Valve marketing team has a bumpy road ahead, but it's navigable. they really need to emphasize what this thing can do that consoles can't - otherwise, people are just going to keep comparing spec sheets.
November 20, 2025 at 9:19 PM
The specs on the Steam Machine are a bit lower than I was hoping for, but I could still get some decent value out of it as a stream box for my main PC. Price will be the determining factor.

Never been bullish on VR, so that's likely a skip.

100% sold on the controller, though.
Valve has announced three new hardware products expanding the Steam Hardware family, all scheduled to launch in early 2026.

I definitely want the controller. Interested to see the specs and price of the cube. Perfect time for Valve to take another crack at this.
Steam Frame, Steam Controller, Steam Machine announcement is expected soon, here's a first look!

if the VN is only comprised of passive reading, it's not a game. i don't really understand why this label is so important to people

not being a game doesn't detract from the quality of the product

i've read a ton of VNs - many of which were far more interesting than some mass market print books

pokemon doesn't necessarily need a massive AAA budget but this goes a long way in helping to explain why they all come out so undercooked

like, what are we doing here

literally the biggest IP on the planet and they're budgeting the games like tubi movies

this is the perfect time for valve to take another shot at the home console market. SteamOS home boxes, marketed correctly, could disrupt Sony's dominance and give them real competition again. they need it - this has been the worst generation for PS studios/games, by far.

treyarch about to give COD players everything they've ever asked for

absolutely insane early BF6 numbers - and this is only steam
October 10, 2025 at 5:31 PM
microsoft has consistently missed every possible easy lay-up for game pass growth. integrating the service into steam - even if they needed to add a 30% premium to cover the valve cut - would have led to explosive, widespread adoption on PC. instead, PC game pass is now effectively dead.

I'm still unable to purchase Silksong on Steam 🫠

I've never seen a release crash the platform like this
September 4, 2025 at 3:26 PM
there are 3 options:

1. complete reboot with a new timeline/continuity
2. supporting character side stories in the main/kojima continuity
3. let it rest

there's really no story left to tell. solid snake is dead and kojima made the same big boss "missing link" game twice already.
What would you want next for the Metal Gear series?

Todd Howard, more than anything else, is a great salesman. He's a lot like Steve Jobs in that way. He can get on a stage and make all your worries disappear.

He dumped all his skill points into speech and has a 10 in charisma. Because of this, he'll keep getting away with it.
In your opinion, why was the 45 min Starfield direct so engaging?

I do think Black Ops 7 will outsell Battlefield 6 on brand loyalty alone; it's too entrenched in the culture to quickly death spiral. Having said that... the reactions should be worrying for MS. This model isn't going to work long-term anymore - change is needed
