Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender Maksym Butkevych has been awarded the 2025 Václav Havel Prize.

Two other journalists, from Georgia and Azerbaijan, were runners-up for the Prize, which honours action to defend human rights worldwide.

As the European Convention on Human Rights marks its 75th anniversary, the original manuscript of the Convention was on display in the @CoE chamber today.

"It is the compass that has guided Europe for 75 years" said the @PACE_President, opening the session.
