Also, honestly, the chances of my emailing you out of the blue are super slim. In the past, oh, year or two I've only ever sent a "you don't know me but I love your work" sort of mail to Jenna Katerin Moran, and that was because The Night Bird's Feather was just that amazing.

not only does "consciousness" not have a rigorous, testable definition, almost no one who likes to pontificate on the topic cares to attempt to provide one. thus: "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" is more rigorous a question than "does a traffic light have consciousness?"

(and yes, i realize that there are companies claiming to actually offer this "service" now. for the sake of god and all that is good, i hope that they are lying.)

my brother was absolutely obsessed with "rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead" and used to make me play "questions" with him over and over.

but for me it was "arcadia."

that doesn't surprise me. it takes work to get something to stick to the brain.

(note that this is derived from TRPG manuals, which people read and reread many times, as well as using as reference during play. novels tend to be treated much more casually and thus have _lower_ retention rates.)

if you only say it once, you may as well have not said it. no one will notice.

if you say it twice, some astute rereaders will internalize it as "it's not in the text, but I have a crazy personal theory that--"

three times is bare minimum to read and understand it.
