Agreed, I think they meant for it to be more abstract than their usual stuff but also accidentally made the story arc murky in the process too. I only watched a few ghibli movies so def didn't catch half the references in it but the granduncle line meta wise felt like Miyazaki

also watched lake mungo a few days before and wow that movie didn't feel like horror to me as much as it felt like a flashback to when i was around the mc's age 😭brain chemistry altering type shii
