At first glance, that figure might suggest an abundance of available housing, but for those actively searching for a place to live, it often doesn't seem that way-and for good reason. The study found a significant portion of these vacant properties are not listed for sale or rent. Some are seasonal homes, some are undergoing renovations, and others are simply being held as investments. As a result, the pool of truly available homes is much smaller than the headline number suggests, making the hunt for affordable, accessible housing more challenging than the national stats might imply.

From the author in the comments section of the article: Hi everyone, I became interested in this subject as the parent of two small children and as a product of the 1980s/ 1990s American public school system. I think it can be easy to imagine childhood and school as these timeless experiences that are essentially static across generations. Instead, as I learned from my reporting, there have been dramatic changes. For this piece, I read histories of childhood, education and psychiatry. I also spoke with many people who worry that in trying to get children to learn more, we've lost sight of how they learn best, and even their overall well-being. I'm curious: If you are the parent or grandparent of school-age children, what have you observed? Do things seem different now? And if your child has been diagnosed with one of these disorders, what has that experience been like? What did you learn about vour local school?
