we used to have better community on deviantart, in Poland we had amazing digart, places where folks left you comments from early teenage years of drawing and built up your confidence year by year

there doesn't seem to be a space to make mistakes, to be a newbie. it's one of the reasons why I think frieren fan art meme is great and important. besides the memery, it's a huge protest against it - we all MISSED seeing amateur art because we don't SEE it anymore (algorithms!)

in the online era where everyone is a pro, posting amateur stuff is scary. it hurts, exposes you to "akshully" crowd pushing glasses on their nose before they assert dominance (clicks) by pointing exactly where you failed, reddit mods banning you for weird rules on art forums

economy makes almost everyone struggle for income, income comes from clicks, clicks come from algorithms, algorithms don't care about the details over general visual rep.

doesn't matter if a detail reveals genAI - that fully rendered fan art clicks better than a sketch on paper
