No, not really. That was the work of hundreds of years, not 2 or 3 decades.
I'm not saying it's a great thing, but China pours as much cement every two years as the US did in the 20th century, a remarkable stat that points to staggeringly rapid development.

But I return to the central point. A planned economy has the ability to be controlled, and ours doesn't resulting in many 'losers' and environmental destruction without end.

Nothing compares to what China has achieved. Furthermore, only central planning will be able to restrain itself from consumer driven eco suicide. (Of course, without a crystal ball we'll not know if China is capable of that restraint)

Sure, that's agreed.
FYI part of the reason I have kind of a soft spot for a Chinaesque state is that only central planning seems to have the ability to reign in the type of capitalism that currently is assuring the end of civilisation through the destruction of our life systems.
