there are so many tools they could be using, but they don't want to stick their necks out. they don't want the fight, they want things to go back how they were. but they don't get to choose. we're in this fight whether we want it or not, and we need more aggressive fighters.

she’s venting and it’s valid. it’s not crazy to expect our politicians to be capable at politicking. if they’re not they need to step aside. things are fucking *dire* and party leadership is overly focused on politeness and acquiescence, not the urgency and escalation the situation requires.

8 million *fewer* dems turned out in 2024 because they ran a republican-light platform. harris/walz had juice for like 1 week, then the consultants told her to court the cheneys and genocide. people like fighters, people like politicians with a fucking spine.

the votes were there, the party wasn't.

in our school district, they're 100% dedicated on ABA. the school our child is entering has a team of BCBAs that work with them, and while they seem like nice people, i'm very conflicted about it. we're honestly considering moving but that introduces other learning/social challenges.

agree completely. i don’t think ABA should be treated as a universal approach to autism, but I do struggle with the balance between rejecting it entirely and making sure autistic kids (especially nonverbal) get the same support and care to live rich, full lives as neurotypical kids do.

but because they're not neurotypical, teaching them can look different.

i agree, that’s not where I’m coming from. nonverbal kids can absolutely have rich, fulfilling lives. but if they’re not taught (like any other neurotypical kid) not to bite, we’re actually limiting their ability to live fully and safely in the world.

just discussing a topic i'm struggling with. not defending ABA but it seems like the pendulum can swing the other direction and we end up avoiding teaching autistic children, especially non-verbal children, basic skills and abilities.

don't all kids get taught not to bite?
