A new online poll the Partnership conducted in September found that 46% of respondents say they or someone they know have been personally affected by government cuts, a 17 percentage point increase in public awareness from a similar poll we conducted in March 2025.

Inspectors general are one of the central watchdogs of the federal government, identifying and stopping waste, fraud and abuse and saving taxpayers tens of billions of dollars every year. In fiscal year 2024 alone, the internal auditors and investigators saved taxpayers $70 billion.
