New Guest Gist: Empires of Certainty
"The implication is that people can’t be trusted to narrate their own experience.

In doing so, she revives a medical paternalism reminiscent of the Victorian physician prescribing fresh air and cold baths for hysteria. "

Guest Gist: Empires of Certainty
Dermot Casey responds to "The Age of Diagnosis" and its suggestions that there are just too many ADHD people around these days. This is the Gist.

You should try to get it published somewhere.

I had a friend tell me that O’Sullivans reasoning is sound because neurodivergent kids do well in school, but not the workplace… That wouldn’t be because schools work hard at being neuro-inclusive, and most workplaces are way behind.

Imagine if instead of providing passenger ferry service we just made everyone own their own small boats. It would be chaos and totally unsafe on days like today. And obviously not everyone could afford one. Plus imagine the dock space required!
But that’s basically what we do with cars 🤣

That is uncanny! Also, what a gorgeous dog. I think there are certain dogs that are ready made children’s book characters… Definitely giving Eeyore vibes!

He technically played the straight man in that sketch, with incredibly funny lines that he played straight. It was Ferrell’s sketch. I think it just adds to his repertoire that he could act so well in it. (SNL seems to have no problem with their regular cast members corpsing constantly)

Anyway, feel free to spend the day scheming away. #BadFriday is an inclusive holiday, that seems to appeal to the impish nature in all of us, and especially little kids. Remember there are no good ideas on Bad Friday, only bad ones and all are welcome! #SpeirGorm

Unfortunately some research has emerged in the last few days that brings into question whether Pink Eye Pillow is physically feasible: www.upworthy.com/cats-butthol...
6th grader's science experiment answers, 'Do cat buttholes touch every surface they sit on?'
A question no one knew they needed answered.

While there has been some great contenders: one of the favourites to emerge has been “Pink Eye Pillow”. This is where we get the dog (with her jaunty upward pointing tail) to go around sitting on the bed pillows of family members.

It’s more of an intellectual exercise, we won’t do the mean things. The last two weeks have been great craic at dinner, imagining all the bad things you could think up. One rule is you must “riff” on ideas, so build it up and add layers rather than tearing anything down. #Speirgorm #BadFriday

Mines still there: i quoted Freire at it and now it accepts that a Meta AI cannot be a force for good given it is programmed with Meta and Zuck’s values. Does that count as bullying an AI?

My auntie and her husband check out RIP.ie regularly to find remotely connected acquaintances who have died and attend their funerals for the free lunch. Apparently this is quite a common practice!

I’ve MMA, UFC and any versions of wordle I come across. Wordle posts are a bit annoying, but blocking UFC/MMA seems to really improve my social media experience
