Specifically: I think it's very hard to make a competition show that's fully about what the contestants make. Everyone has to be exceptional for that to work. It's the characters that really make GBBO work, and German Bake Off has not learned that lesson...

In Hidalgo, where my partner's family live, they're even still called pastes (there was a very strong Cornish community in the state capital especially). Supposedly what they call empanadas there are different to pastes, but I couldn't tell you how despite having eaten both 😅
