Russia demanding a sphere of influence in the post-Soviet space is normal in Trump's mind, just as he believes it's natural and right for America to lay claim to Greenland and invade Venezuela. Might is right and if smaller countries don't like it then tough shit.

I've never subscribed to the idea Trump is a lapdog of Russia. The truth is far worse, Trump believes in 19th century imperialism of great powers ruling at the expense of small nations. He looks at what Putin is doing to Ukraine as completely natural, a large country dominating "lesser" nations.

The Euro-Atlantic alliance has been fatally wounded, it is irreversibly beyond repair. What we in Europe must do now is begin the long term work on moving on from America. They are headed for a violent civil war that may very well lead to its destruction. Europe must federalise.

People should understand it will only be a catastrophe for Russia only if they lose the war. If Putin is victorious in Ukraine they will recover rapidly and move on to their next targets, the Baltics. Then Poland. Then the Balkans. And finally western Europe.

A reminder: Hungary and Slovakia can easily source alternatives to Russian oil/gas, they just dont want to. They WANT to buy from Russia, even if it costs them more.
