אם הכוונה לממצאים ארכיאולוגיים הוא מן הסתם צודק,* אבל יש לא מעט עדויות כתובות על ׳עיטורי עור׳ בתקופה הויקינגית. אפשר להתווכח כמובן על ההגדרה של ציור/איפור (כולל פרמננטי) על העור לעומת קעקוע.
