Today’s #orchid:
Dendrochilum glumaceum, the hay-scented orchid or husk-like dendrochilum, brought in by a member, to our monthly meeting this past Saturday.
(Yes, we know they’ve been reclassified as Coelogyne.
And yes, we will continue to call them Dendrochilum.)

First flowering:

Cymbidium dayanum var. angustifolium is an orchid that bloomed last season and marks my first time flowering a Cymbidium. Growing this orchid taught me a lot about light and seasonal timing, and it was exciting to finally see it bloom.

Orchid flowers are so specialized that they have some orchid-specific terms. The sepals are distinguished as lateral or dorsal, and the one petal that is highly modified and differentiated is the lip or labellum. This hybrid is Cattleya Sheila Lauterbach 'Equilab' #Orchidaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

Oncidium Venilia is a remake of an old historic hybrid registered by Charlesworth in 1909. It is a primary cross of cirhhosum and nobile and it is the first flowering of the batch of seedlings we made in 2022. Exciting times 🌱
