Trying not to get run over in Rome. Rarely fluent. Often eating and drinking at the British School at Rome.
Last night's gig was Lino Capra Vaccina with Mai Mai Mai. Great gig. Big crowd, one of whom collapsed on me after about 45mins of heavy ambience.

Hints of autumn in Rome this morning.

Made a solo trip out to Lanificio in Rome last night for the first time. Neoprimitivi and Memorials were great. Fujiya & Miyagi left me a bit cold. Or maybe the lure of my bed was too great.

Pretty grim out there this morning.

Fans of Reginald Pole may be pleased to see that his little chapel on the Appia Antica has been fully restored. It doesn't look big enough to contain his beard but it is quite sweet.

Saw this and managed to paint the red cross before the museum guards ushered me out.

Last night's 'I think I'll pop down to the local church and see what's playing gig' was Joëlle Léandre. Someone I knew nothing about and who appears to be a big thing in the free/improvisational/new music world. She was great and 73 to boot.

Nino Gvilia was great last night in this beautiful romanesque medieval church near Siena last night. Perfect setting.

This is the Nile Mosaic of Palestrina which we went to see on Friday. It dates from the 1st C BC. It's huge and amazing. We had the whole museum to ourselves.

Reginald Pole's little chapel update: it looks like it's nearly finished.

Inside the museum was this. But no one was allowed to explain it:

This was always a big favourite with me when reading to the kids. Very dark though.

As Anita Brookner's art history teacher, Anthony Blunt, is in the news today, here's a picture of him sitting on some Roman toilets at Ostia Antica in 1958. c/o The British School At Rome's archive - where he was a faculty member.

I'm very fond of this Etruscan pot that we saw in Viterbo's Museo Nazionale. I'm sure there's a kids' cartoon to be made of it.
