You have a point here but I think what John is getting at is revenue generation. So for example at BA, that 256 77W config has 76J seats compared to 48J on the -10. That’s A LOT of extra revenue to. The question is does the -10 save you that much money to forgo that revenue? That honestly depends

Quite a lot will fly empty in the -10s current form. However, With the upgrade according to Jon’s podcast it should take a full belly of cargo on AKL-LAX return
January 25, 2026 at 11:26 PM
Oh yes of course. It’s no 77W you’re right about that. But I think it has a bit more capacity than the 772 and also the 359
January 25, 2026 at 11:18 PM
From passengers yes I agree revenue is the same. Cargo will probably be significantly more (especially sub 5500nm stage lengths) because of the much bigger cargo hold. So the 78X will most likely still generate more revenue at a significantly lower cost

There’s ANAs 777-200ERs as well vs their -10 which both have the same product. (Domestic)

Both with 28J seats (premium economy style seats)

77E: 28J 364Y
78X: 28J 401Y

That’s a 37 seat difference
January 25, 2026 at 11:08 PM
It’s about 10% bigger than the 772. Comparable configs it gives you roughly an extra 20 seats
January 25, 2026 at 10:55 PM
And can actually carry a lot of cargo. Unlike the A380 that was horrendous in that department
January 25, 2026 at 10:54 PM
Maybe additional 787s?

Boeing also released figures for the 787IGW

-10 actually goes to 574k vs the original 572k

Like the article says, I think the plan is actually to finish certification of the existing line up of jets. But maybe you’re not familiar with aircraft development, but this stage is not particularly resource heavy and needs to be happen if they launch before the end of the decade…

Boeing had been doing that for about 60 years….it wasn’t something that happened like 2 years before the max issues. The ideal would be got Boeing to go back to that. The FAA cannot possibly keep up, especially as Boeing increases rates to 42 a month.

So it doesn’t look like an iPhone 6 Plus then…

I’ve explained this so my bad but the easiest way is they are ‘firm orders’ that are not finalised.

Which means they have a deal in principle. But that’s typically the case with Korean air, they get a deal in principle then announce then finalise. Some airlines finalise then announce.
August 26, 2025 at 10:51 AM
Yes in this March 2025 press release but in the one that just came, no. So to answer your question, these are not options they are firm orders that will be finalised in the coming months.

Like this press release for example was when Korean “finalised” their LOI of a firm order of 40 Boeing aircraft and 10
Options.

So I think the word I should be using is the order is not finalised but yes it it’s a firm order as there are no options.
Korean Air Finalizes Landmark Boeing Widebody Order
SEATTLE, Mar. 26, 2025 – Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Korean Air today finalized a landmark order for up to 50 widebody airplanes, including 20 777-9s, 20 787-10s and options for 10 additional 787...

Because it’s an intent of a firm order. There’s also intent to option. There are no options, just firm orders. That’s the point.
August 26, 2025 at 10:38 AM
It’s a firm order. Koreans orders always start as an intent and then firmed in the coming months.
August 26, 2025 at 6:42 AM
Well they’re flying on it everyday so?
August 6, 2025 at 9:32 AM
We still don’t actually know that for fact..
