Incidentally, Trump putting the medal on himself was inadvertently one of the most honest things he's ever done.

Funnily enough, I was also just asking this, too.

Obviously plenty of possible reasons, but curious just which one(s) it is.

Just trying to nuzzle up to him as much as possible? Placating a toddler, or maybe a retainer for future favour?

Or did Trump or his team threaten the tournament somehow?

Was exactly my first thought, too.

Well, that, or it's your classic evil monstrous version of the hero, created when the villain pushes things too far.

Huh, fair enough, I guess. You do you.

Ok, so no thoughts on what's holding up releasing the list? Fair enough.

Exactly how much do you think I care?

But are you suggesting you *don't* care whether your president, or any president, is on the list or not?
August 11, 2025 at 6:57 AM
Does Trump understand that?

Oh, and the DoJ, at least, is still part of your government, right?

And yoir government presumably also has some form of oversight and influence over the FBI?

Genuinely curious: what do you think the hold up is with releasing the list?
August 11, 2025 at 6:40 AM
I guess the irony here is that Trump/the government *does* have the proof.

It just perhaps proves stuff they'd rather not be proved.

Obligatory reference to the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness.

This realisation was brought to you by my need to clean the oven top... hobs... surface.

I realised one thing putting me off was I couldn't just grab the cleaner and cloth, because I didn't intuitively know which cleaner and cloth I wanted. I'd have to figure it out.

And that'd be a whole thing...

So they return to starting positions, repeat their lines, because that's the only way they will continue to exist. Repeating the same actions, the same lines, until the performances stop and the stage goes dark.

There they are.

As long as their gods are there to watch.

Think about it this way: what do you do with money?

You *give it away in exchange for things you actually want*.

But you can't buy a winning lottery ticket.

Why would you give away something you want, for 125,000 things you don't want?
January 5, 2025 at 12:00 AM
$125,000 is just $125,000.

Memories, printed on little bits of paper, are priceless.

In the good way.

I'll be honest, I'm kinda surprised it doesn't work this way already.

I mean, I knew it doesn't always, but I guess I also subconsciously assumed it still does a lot of the time.

Which is all mildly embarrassing, given Film Studies was half my degree. And I worked at Blockbuster.

(Ok, already regretting the fairly reductive, off-the-cuff response. Obviously there's more to it than that, and ultimately the key is to convince more people that migrants aren't the source of their woes, or a big bad, and mostly just regular people wanting to live their lives like the rest of us)

Fundamentally:

a) it's not seen as 'strong'. Strong is making something tougher, not making something easier (even if those two 'somethings' are different; they just want 'tough')

b) the boats and 'valid cases for asylum' aren't really what the voters Labour think they should be chasing care about
