Rarely surprised, always annoyed. Curling ice tech by trade and accumulator of hobbies.(He/Him)
Biggest #coffee roasting day yet:

A pound of Java Sunday Haji Iyan roasted to City+ in the left two jars and the first blend I'm trying in the right jar. 55% Rwandan Kivubelt and 45% Mexican Terruño both roasted to City then blended.

New #coffee day.

A lightish roast honey process from the Dominican Republic.

For my NA beverage drinking friends on here: a pretty darn tasty sparkling Rose.

Nice carbonation and balances quite well between tart and sweet.

Definitely gets a recommend from us.

First cup of coffee from the beans I roasted on Monday.

I had high hopes for this brew and fortunately it did not disappoint! Would not be unhappy being served this is a cafe.

Easily my most successful roast.

One year of German learning today.

I have definitely learned a little German, though mostly I have confirmed that my brain just sucks at learning languages.

That said, I think I'm still on track with my goal of not being an American idiot in a German speaking country.

Last week was a bad week for me both on and off the ice, so it felt good to come out and actually throw well last night. #curling

While at the cat show on Saturday, I picked up this adorable kitty espresso cup that will 100% be used for dialing in new roasts going forward.

By the numbers, appearance, and aroma this might be my most successful roast. Super excited to try it in a few days.

Moreover, I'm happy that I was able to make the adjustments I wanted to after the last roast and see those changes affect the roast profile.

New #coffee day. Not roasting enough to keep up with consumption and giving samples to friends, so picked up this coffee from a new to me roaster.

On the darker side of medium, so tomorrow I'll start dialing it in for espresso

Final result as they wait to degas.

13.3% weight loss.

It does feel like each roast I get slightly closer to being able to "control" the roast rather than react, which is a good feeling.

Also, the roasting setup has gotten a bit more, um, complicated.

That said, if you want to learn faster, it is best to have data!

Coffee roasting day.

Every roast is a learning process at this point.

Today's beans are a Brazilian coffee that hopefully I can pull some shots with once it rests.

Currently still rocking the Flair. I was a Kickstarter backer for the Neo and picked up the bottomless portafilters during fulfillment.

I do have an Odyssey Argos on pre-order though that I should be getting sometime between April and June. Excited for that and fingers crossed for no delays!

Notice has been given, however, given my 8 years of experience, it will not be heeded.

Tried two different canned mocktails today.

The Lyre's Dark 'N Spicy was solid. Good ginger spicy with a decent sweetness balance.

The Curious No. 6, however, was interesting. Didn't really get much coconut or pineapple, but rather tasted of spiced apple cider. Not bad, just not expected.

Results: Not first place

Great event. Always a good time

Ordered up a few pounds of two different beans so I could start playing with dialing in a roast profile.

This is the first roast of the Rwandan coffee I ordered and followed my very rudimentary "base" roasting plan. Excited to try it and start exploring.

Runner-up. Again.

Didn't play well enough in a handful of ends and that made the difference.

Proud of the team, but yeah, this hurts. Wish I had been better.

Early morning ice prep for the doubles league before heading to play game two of playdowns.

They were a pulp natural process Brazilian bean from Sweet Maria's. One of the beans I got as part of the starter kit. Roasting up something new this week.

Thinking of trying some beans from Burman Coffee Traders soon as well since they are kinda local to me. It'll be nice to have options.

Trying to find any small joy I can today.

Anyway, I pulled my first espresso shots with beans I roasted myself.

So that's kinda neat.

Our playing journey ended last night in the 1st event semi-finals and now that the piper has the teams, ice making is done for the event.

Longest bonspiel on the calendar is now done.

I am absolutely beat.
